Loss: A Reason for More

The default state of life is that everything, if left alone, is on a decrease- age, time, wealth, and health are just some examples. Effort has to be made in order to stop or minimize the decrease of some of them like wealth, health, etc.

At times, loss also happens without our control- the loss of a job, health, an opportunity, etc.

However, loss is actually a reason to receive more. The Prophet Suleyman after losing his kingship turned that loss into something more.

He did two things:

1. Realized that the loss is not the end of it all
2. Asked the King of Kings not for what was lost, but for that and more

Upon the loss of kingship, the Prophet Suleyman made an amazing dua that demonstrated his connection with Allah. The Prophet supplicated: “My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom such as will not belong to anyone after me. Indeed, You are the Bestower.” [38:35]

Not only did he get his kingship back, but got one better than what he had or anyone would ever have.

Turn your loss into a reason for more, connect with Allah.

I notice he first humbled him self and realized his own role in the initial loss. He didn’t feel wronged in some way that Allah removed the kingship from him. So with his submission and admission of his own guilt he also recognized Allah’s perfection.
